Tennessee Walking Show Horse Organization – TWSHO

Sanctions

The Tennessee Walking Horse HIOs and community are committed to eliminating the sore horse from the show ring and the soring trainer from the industry through self-regulation, consistent inspection processes, and enforcement of strict penalties.

Through forceful regulation and inspection at shows, HIOs are successfully identifying violators of the Horse Protection Act (HPA).  In the past 3 years, HIO inspections have discovered cases of cruel devices, pressure shoeing, and horse swapping, never before found or prosecuted by the USDA, resulting in the first two criminal prosecutions of HPA violations in approximately 20 years.

The HIOs are not only identifying cases of noncompliance, but also they, along with the walking horse community, are enforcing some of the strictest penalties in the industry’s history.
